Sarah Ruttle Artist
As Sarah’s work evolves she shares glimpses of new work in exhibitions across the country. Applying through open calls to a variety of galleries, gaining exposure for her new work. Most recently she had a piece selected to be exhibited in Royal Ulster Academy’s 144th Annual Exhibition, Ulster Museum, Belfast.
In addition to this during 2025 she exhibited in group shows in Signal Arts Centre, Wicklow; Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre; Cnoc Buí, Union Hall; Working Artist Studios, Ballydehob.

‘One Place and Every Place’ is a joint exhibition with Paula Marten and Sarah Ruttle in Cnoc Bui in Union Hall. The show is about place, the stories, the emotions that belong and dwell there, but also the enduring quest for hope, beauty, and a relief from this challenging and ever-changing world. This collection, inspired by nature, includes intricate drawings, paintings and paper-cuts which share some of the exceptional and raw beauty of West Cork. Sarah’s figurative art aims to recognise and capture moments of strength. The focus of this body of work is about finding a place that refreshes and sustains.
Paula & Sarah have many connecting threads one of which being they both trained in textiles in Scotland before moving to West Cork twenty years ago. They were drawn to each other’s work; seeing many links through the love of drawing, creation of layers and depth, texture, pattern, colour, and the technique of paper cutting.
Opening Thursday 20th June by ceramic artist Aisling Roche. With artists Gerald O’Callaghan & Martin McCormack exhibiting their own solo shows in Cnoc Buí’s other gallery spaces.

This significant solo exhibition shares the first step of the evolution in Sarah’s most recent work. In a new body of work, this collection of drawings captures moments of humanity, emotion, courage and hope.
This body of work made during 2022/2023 is an exploration of figurative work, featuring portraiture. The exhibition included works called: ‘Limitless Compassion’ exploring division & inequality; ‘See Me’ which is about celebrating our older generation; ‘The Unspoken’ considering the perspective of someone experiencing mental health challenges and of someone supporting a loved one on their recovery journey.
Alongside the drawings sat ‘Endangered & Vanishing Beauty’ a Limited-Edition Paper-Cut book series which continues to build on one of Sarah’s signatures: paper cut artworks.
Having undertaken an artist residency in Working Artist Studios in 2021, Sarah developed ‘Love & Loss’ a site-specific large scale work for this show during an artist residency in 2023. The first figurative work at this scale for her, and it continues to echo detailed mark making, creating an intriguing depth in each piece.
